Warners Printers installs Axtec OnBoard across fleet
Warners Printers, the independent family-owned printing company celebrating its centenary year in 2026, has partnered with Axtec to install the axle weighing specialist’s OnBoard Load Indicators across its five-truck Mercedes fleet.
The company’s Mercedes fleet comprises one 15-tonne Atego, one 18-tonne Actros, two 26-tonne 420bhp Actros rigids, and one 44-tonne 420bhp 6×2 Actros tractor unit with Lawrence David trailer, all now equipped with Axtec’s OnBoard Load Indicators.
Managing payload distribution presents a particular challenge for printing operations, where optimising the number of pallets is essential for efficiency. The company had identified diminishing loads as a potential risk area, with the possibility of inadvertent overloads creating safety, wear-and-tear and legal concerns. With Axtec’s OnBoard Load Indicator, drivers now have access to precise, real-time weight data, providing the confidence to utilise vehicles safely right up to their legal maximum capacity.
“The OnBoard Load Indicators bring peace-of-mind for us as an operator, and especially for our drivers,” said Transport Manager, John Vergette. “Our drivers are very pleased with the system, and with its ease-of-use. It’s very straightforward, which is exactly what we needed. 99% of the time, it’s just a glance at the screen. Everything’s in the green and we’re good to go,” he said, “We have the certainty that we’re operating within legal tolerances, even as we unload and reposition pallets.”
The system provides drivers with accurate, real-time axle loads, with loading represented intuitively in colour, showing legal axles in green, approaching maximum in amber and overloads in red. This visual feedback eliminates guesswork and ensures consistent compliance across all vehicle operations.
Vergette added, “We actively sought out Axtec’s system ourselves, recognising the need to optimise loading without risking axle overload. Installation was straightforward; three vehicles were retrofitted, and two had the system installed before delivery. All future vehicles will be fitted before we receive them.”
The intuitive interface has been particularly well received by Warners’ drivers, who appreciate the confidence it provides in load management. This driver acceptance is crucial for Warners, where long-serving staff and positive working relationships are central to the company’s operational philosophy. As an independent family-owned business, Warners Printers has consistently invested in operational improvements and technology that supports both efficiency and safety.
“We’re always investing in the future while maintaining our family values,” said Marketing Director, Michael Warner, “We want to be good people to work with, and we are fortunate enough to have so many long-serving members of staff, because we’re a people-driven business. The Axtec system fits perfectly with our approach. It’s reliable, practical and it protects our drivers and our operations.”
Specialising in the UK printing market, Warners has built its reputation over nearly 100 years through consistent service delivery and operational excellence. The partnership with Axtec reflects this heritage, combining proven technology with the personalised approach that characterises successful family businesses approaching their centenary milestone.
